Confrontation Between the Lutheran Church and TsAGI in the 1920ies:
A Sad Fate of the Sanctuary for the Soviet Aircraft Builders’ Sake |

The paper is focused on an uneasy history of mutual relations between the oldest German Evangelical-Lutheran church of Moscow at Voznesenskaya Street (nowadays – Radio Street) and Central Aerohydrodynamical Institute (TsAGI) on which territory it was located in the 1920ies. It was nationalized along with other buildings TsAGI. It was thought that the existence of the Lutheran Church created the threat of sabotage and hinder the construction of new laboratory buildings. Authorities’ decision January 27, 1928 St. Michael’s Church was closed and transferred to her room TsAGI, despite the complaints of many parishioners. The former church building, after a significant refurbishment, planning post-centered propeller laboratory department. But for some reason it does not, and is the oldest Lutheran church in the country has been completely demolished.
The paper is based on archival documents and illustrated with a number of photos and copies of documents.
