Universal History Annotation << Back HALF CENTURY OF SEARCHES AND DISCOVERIES (To the history of abroad geological exploration) S.V. Belov The offered sketch is devoted to a semi centennial history of geological exploration abroad. It is shown as their carrying out was organizationally issued. Heads of geological exploration abroad, from the chief of the first expedition on foreign works to director generals of JSC «Zarubezhgeologia» are called. The characterized role of Russian geologists in finding and the subsequent prospecting of large ore objects. As examples the history of discoveries of large-scale mercury fields in Algeria, iron, manganese and coal in Iran, tantalum in Ethiopia are in details described. Tragic pages of history of the foreign geological exploration, connected with capture of geologists in Mozambique are mentioned. The thought that in the conditions of globalization of mineral and raw sector, historical experience of geological works abroad is especially valuable is underlined.
