Universal History Annotation << Back FROM THE HISTORY OF THE LAST YEARS’ EXISTENCE OF ST. MICHAEL EVANGELICAL LUTHERAN CHURCH IN MOSCOW AND THE MYSTERY OF Y.V. BRUCE’S BURIAL A.R. Narskiy The paper deals with the Soviet period in the history of St. Michael Evangelical Lutheran Church in the former German district of Moscow. This Church built in the late XVII century was in Voznesenskaya street (now the territory of all-Russian scientifi c research Institute of aviation materials in Radio street). It functioned until 1928, when the building was made over to the Central Aerohydrodynamic Institute for restructuring into the lab, and destroyed a little later. Concurrently the consecution of destructing the graves found in the Church in 1929 was reviewed, in particular that of the loyalist of Peter I, Count Jacob Daniel Bruce (1669–1735). The study is based on the archival documents from the various funds of the State archive of the Russian Federation, the Russian state archive of economy, the Central archive of the city of Moscow, the Central state archive of the Moscow region, the Russian state archive of ancient acts, research Department of manuscripts of the Russian State Library, Department of written sources of the State historical Museum, Science Museum Professor N.E. Zhukovsky. The article is illustrated with rare photographs and copies of the archival documents relating to the history of the St. Michael Lutheran Church. Most of them were dug out by the author and published for the fi rst time.
