Universal History Annotation << Back SOVIET BAM: PROBLEMS OF DESIGN AND SURVEY WORKS AT THE INITIAL STAGE OF CONSTRUCTION. 1932 O.N. Soldatova The article describes the problems and solutions encountered by the prospectors at the initial design stage of the Baikal-Amur Railway, which Glavzheldorstroya East Siberian expedition of the People’s Commissariat of Railways has started after the April 13, 1932 SNK № 542 «On the construction of the Baikal-Amur Railway». Prospectors had to pave the road with a total length of almost 2000 km from the station Urushi and fork Takhtamygda TRANS-Baikal railway to the village of Perm (now – Komsomolsk). Lack of cartographic material and highly complex topographical and geophysical conditions of passage of a line in an uninhabited, roadless and harsh northern taiga, accompanied by severe logistical position of survey party led to the fact that at the very beginning of the work had to abandon the idea to get the fi nal draft of the route of the BAM by the end of 1932.
