Universal History Annotation << Back FORMATION OF AN IMAGE «SCIENTISTS-PEST» IN THE SOVIET PROPAGANDA 20-50-S R.A. Fando The article is devoted to Soviet propaganda, aimed at the formation of the image of «scientists-pest» in the satirical publications 1920‒1950-ies. Caricatures were made in accordance with the political conjuncture. These caricatures mock the whole research areas and individual scientists; moreover they carry out propaganda tasks of the general population. Information on the achievements of science for the majority of the population was scarce and difficult to access due to the limited revenue channels and the lack of a specifi c framework for the inhabitants in the perception and understanding of the results of scientific research. It was especially difficult to propagate knowledge among the illiterate population. Funny pictures allow to accept the slogans and visuals quickly and easily. Due to the thought-out propaganda, including satirical publications, in Soviet society a stable negative attitude was formed towards some areas in genetics, breeding, physiology, biochemistry for many years.
