Universal History Annotation << Back TO THE HISTORY OF DESIGNING A RAILROAD ALONG THE SOUTH BANK CRIMEA IN THE LATE XIX–EARLY XX CENTURIES О.N. Soldatova The article reveals some aspects of the history of designing a railroad along the southern coast of the Crimea at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Interest in the construction of the road showed Russian industrialists and entrepreneurs P.I. Gubonin, von Hartmann, General I.S. Maltsev, S.N. Chaev, G.K. Ushkov, etc. The design of the road involved well-known Russian engineer-trainees N. Mikhailovsky, L.A. Stukenberg, Professor of Geology, N.I. Karakash and one of the founders of the Russian electrotechnical industry M.N. Levitsky. The construction of the road could signifi cantly affect the development of the resort business in the Crimea, but in the beginning of the twentieth century the project was prevented fi rst World War, and then the revolution of 1917. The reference to the project in the 1920s. The new power of the Bolsheviks also proved unsuccessful. Then it was possible to build only an automobile road from Sevastopol to Yalta, partly using the developments of Russian engineers, in particular, NG. Mikhailovsky, who developed for those times an exotic and unique project of a truly fabulous road with miniature castles, waterfalls and grottos. The article fi rst publishes archival documents that characterize the contribution of Russian engineers in the design of the South Berezhskaya Railway.
