Universal History Annotation << Back THE FORMATION OF THE UNITED AUTONOMY OF THE KABARDIN AND BALKAR PEOPLE: ELITE CONTRADICTIONS AND NATIONAL SELFDETERMINATION (1921–1922) A.G. Kazharov The article is devoted to the analysis of national-state processes in Kabarda and Balkaria in the early 1920 s. Their result was the free national self-determination of Kabardians and Balkarians and the formation of the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Region. The nature and results of the national-state positioning of the Kabardian and Balkarian peoples was due to the historical features of their mutual relations, the prolonged stay of Kabarda and Balkaria in a single administrative-territorial space, the formation of positive experience of the administrative-political interaction of elites in the conditions of revolution, civil war and post-war period. The systemic element of the process of the formation of the Kabardino-Balkarian Autonomous Region was the Resolution of the Central Executive Committee of June 22, 1922. It made the formation of the unifi ed autonomy of the Kabardian and Balkarian peoples irreversible. The unifi cation of Kabarda and Balkaria became a means and condition for their adaptation to the new historical realities of post-revolutionary time. The conclusion is drawn that such form of cooperation and coexistence was result of their conscious national and state choice.
