Universal History Annotation << Back THE INDUSTRY AND TRADE OF THE NALCHIK DISTRICT IN THE EARLY 20TH CENTURY T.A. Dzughanov, L.H. Guketlova The article examines the main points related to the development of industry and the network of commercial establishments in the Nalchik District of the Terek Region at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries. An attempt is made to study the key features of these processes in the post-reform period. It is established that the development of capitalist relations was hampered by the lack of an established transport infrastructure. It is noted that by the beginning of the twentieth century. The factory industry of Kabarda and Balkaria was mainly at the stage of manufactory development. At the same time, in certain industries, the transition to mechanization of the most labor-intensive processes begins. Particularly rapid development in the district is developing trade, which was due to the penetration of capitalist relations into the economy of Kabarda and Balkaria. It is concluded that the entry of Russia in the late XIX–early XX centuries in the era of modernization contributed to the further economic recovery of the national suburbs. This was of key importance for the Nalchik District. The emergence of capitalist relations, the involvement of the province in the system of the all-Russian market fostered a more rapid growth of the economy, its integration into the all-Russian market.
