RUSSIAN FIRST WAVE SCIENTIFIC EMIGRATION IN THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA |

The article discusses the history of emigration of Russian scientists in the United States in 1918–1940ss. Dynamics of migration processes in the United States in the first half of the twentieth century was heterogeneous: massive fl ow of refugees from Russia was observed in the first years after the October revolution in the 1920s due to the introduction of restrictive quotas, the number of immigrants began to decrease by the end of the 1920s, moving people from the USSR was practically stopped in connection with the Bolshevik prohibition in the free exit of Soviet citizens, the exception was those who was a defector from his foreign trips, and in the 1930s. there was a new emigration surge, as Russian refugees from Europe and the Far East began to travel to America. Russian scientific emigration of the post-revolutionary period was quite common in the United States of America and had a huge impact on the development of various branches of world science and technology. The article shows examples of successful continuation of professional career by well-known scientists and technicians in American scientific institutions and engineering design centers.
