Universal History Annotation << Back INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION FOR THE STUDY OF THE ARCTIC IN THE XX CENTURY N.A. Kupershtokh, A.I. Timoshenko The article examines the little-studied problems of the main directions of international cooperation in the study of the Arctic in the XX century. Scientists from the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as scientists from research centers of foreign countries, took part in the implementation of many projects to study the region, which is unique in nature. The objects of study were permafrost, climate, fauna and flora of the Arctic. As a result of the international interaction of scientists, such an important direction as the problem of environmental monitoring and resource-saving technologies during the process of economic development of the region was born. The international cooperation to study the life of the peoples living in the Arctic regions took shape in a separate area. The experience of implementing international scientific projects during the Soviet period has not lost its significance today.
