Universal History Annotation << Back THE IMAGE OF SCIENCE IN THE POST-WAR WORLD: ANNIVERSARY MEETING OF THE PRESIDIUM OF THE ACADEMY OF SCIENCES OF THE USSR IN JUNE 1945 N.A. Kupershtokh The article analyzes one of the most important events in the system of events dedicated to the 220th anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. On June 23, 1945, a meeting of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR was held in Moscow together with delegations of foreign scientists and academies of sciences of the Union republics. The speeches of scientists at this event were subordinated to a common goal – to formulate a powerful message to the world community: science is international in its essence; science cannot be locked within the borders of individual states. In the wake of victory in World War II, such a message was a natural continuation of the cooperation of the victorious countries. And although the grandiose plans of international cooperation, born during the celebration of the anniversary of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, were already substantially corrected, if not completely curtailed, in the near future, the very principles of this cooperation remain relevant today.
