Universal History Annotation << Back USSR’S ASSISTANCE TO CHINA IN COMPUTER DEVELOPMENT I.A. Krayneva, N.A. Kupershtokh This paper is topical as there is a need to specify the content of the scientific and technical cooperation between the USSR and the Peoples’ Republic of China in computer engineering in 1955–1960. In the recent past, both Russian and Chinese researchers attempted to examine this topic. The events were reported in the broad context of bilateral cooperation. Today, this topic is covered on a piecemeal basis, in papers dedicated to the history of science and engineering, and in the memoirs by the participants of the events. An active participant and coordinator of the scientific and technical cooperation with the Peoples’ Republic of China was the Institute of Precision Mechanics and Computer Engineering, USSR Academy of Sciences (Moscow). Documents of the IPMCE kept in the Archive of the Russian Academy of Sciences, materials on the USSR-PRC cooperation from the Russian State Archive of Contemporary History and memoirs constitute the source base of this publication, which is a study of a synthesizing nature.
