TERRORISM IN DAGESTAN: PHENOMENON OF POST-SOVIET HISTORY
G.I. Yusupova, M.Z. Magomedova

article examines the problem of the spread of religious terrorism in the post-Soviet history of Dagestan. This issue is of particular relevance for the Republic of Dagestan, which has experienced all the negative consequences of the radicalization of Islam. A feature of the manifestation of religious terrorism in Dagestan was the fusion of radical Islam and criminal structures, ideologically and financially supported by international extremist organizations. The aim of the study is to study the reasons for the spread, chronological framework and periodization of the phenomenon of religious terrorism in the post-Soviet period of the history of Dagestan. Research methods: the authors applied the principle of historicism, objectivity, comparative analysis, interdisciplinary and systematic approaches. Research results: on the basis of the research, the periodization of the spread of terrorist activity in the Republic of Dagestan has been developed. The chronological framework of the study covers 30 years of the post-Soviet history of Dagestan, within which the authors have identified three stages in the spread of terrorism: 1st stage – 1991–2000; 2nd stage – 2001–2010; 3rd stage – 2011–2021, their specific features are indicated. The paper analyzes the reasons for the spread of terrorist activity in Dagestan in a historical context. Conclusions. At each stage of the spread of terrorist activity in Dagestan, its specific features and characteristics were clearly identified. The need for an adequate rebuff to manifestations of religious terrorism is justified by the fact that the North Caucasus and the Republic of Dagestan are a zone of heightened interest of international terrorist organizations.
