Universal History Annotation << Back SYRIAN-RUSSIAN MILITARY-POLITICAL BILATERAL RELATIONS (2000–2014) I. Hamida The author analyzes the relations between Russia and Syria. The cooperation in the military and political spheres is analyzed. The main features and achievements in relations between the two states in the 2000s and in the first half of the 2010s are shown. The author believes that Syria sought to use Russian assistance to consolidate the ruling regime. The article shows that cooperation with Damascus has become an opportunity for Russia to intensify its policy and presence in the Arab world. In general, it is assumed that relations between Russia and Syria during the period under study were mutually beneficial, since Moscow and Damascus did not motivate their international cooperation with the help of ideology.
