Universal History Annotation << Back DAGESTAN IN THE SYSTEM OF CAUCASIAN POLITICS OF THE RUSSIAN EMPIRE IN THE FIRST THIRD OF THE XVIII CENTURY: SPECIFICS AND METHODS OF IMPLEMENTATION M.-P. B. Abdusalamov, N.D. Chekulaev Based on the analysis of the materials of the Central State Archive of the Republic of Dagestan, published archival documents and special historical literature, the Dagestan vector of the Caucasian policy of the Russian Empire in the first third of the XVIII century is considered in the article. The authors, taking into account the achievements in domestic Caucasian studies, show the specifi cs and tools for implementing the policy of the Russian Empire in the region, analyze the relationship of the Russian military authorities in the Caucasus with local rulers. It is noted that the methods of conducting the policy of the Russian Empire in the Caucasus were dictated by the peculiarities of this macro-region, due to constant Russian-Ottoman and Russian-Persian rivalry for dominance over this region. It is stated that the Russian Empire used various methods in the implementation of its policy in the Caucasus, and the arsenal of their application was quite extensive. It is concluded that the relationship between the Russian military administration in the Caucasus and the local rulers was constructive and pragmatic, taking into account the interests of both sides.
