THE POSITION OF THE SOVIET INTELLIGENTSIA IN THE OCCUPIED TERRITORY OF THE USSR DURING THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR (ON THE EXAMPLE OF THE LENINGRAD REGION) |
N.V. Shabelnik
The policy of the occupying authorities in the occupied territory of the USSR was differentiated in relation to various social strata of the population. The attitude of the authorities of the "new order" towards the intelligentsia was pragmatic. On the example of the Leningrad region, the author tries to reveal the position of the Soviet intelligentsia in the occupied territory, as well as the attitude of the occupying authorities towards it. According to archival materials, the Soviet intelligentsia was mainly involved in work in the administrative and economic bodies of local governments on the principle of "reliability" to the "new authorities". In the Leningrad region (Pskov, Novgorod, Slutsk, etc.), the Germans created "new Russian administrations" - Russian Directorates. The work of these departments in practice turned out to be fictitious (according to information from intelligence reports of the Leningrad headquarters of the partisan movement). Healthcare and education specialists were practically not involved in work in departments. Partially employed were only teachers of primary education. Representatives of the church intelligentsia enjoyed a more privileged position. Loyalty to the clergy, according to the invaders, strengthened the power of the invaders in the occupied territories. The position of the Soviet intelligentsia was greatly complicated by the activities of political collaborationist organizations. The People’s Labor Union and the Russian National Committee operating on the territory of the Leningrad Region tried to exert a destructive influence on representatives of the local intelligentsia. The author summarizes that during the period of temporary occupation of the Leningrad Region by the Nazi invaders, despite all the difficulties, the Soviet intelligentsia managed to maintain an important integrative spiritual and moral quality - patriotism. Keywords: Great Patriotic War, Leningrad region, intelligentsia, occupation territory, occupation power, occupation policy, self-government bodies, "new Russian administration".
