The article contains valuable information about the management of the Dzharo-Belokan free societies of the XVII– XIX centuries. In form, the authorities of the Jamaat and the free society continued to operate under the old patriarchalcommunal names, but in their social orientation they became an instrument of class domination. With the strengthening of feudal elements in free societies, the role of jamaats has signifi cantly narrowed.
