The article shows the infl uence of the fi nancial factor on the changes in the historical science of the USA in 1970–1980s. The problem of poor study of external factors affecting the historical science of the USA in this period is outlined. The fi nancial aspect of the development of historical science in previous periods – from the beginning of XIX to the middle of XX century – is briefl y outlined. The cardinal fi nancial changes in historical science in 1950–1960s are outlined. The fi nancial crisis in historical science of 1970–1980s is analyzed. The context of the study is important methodological changes in the historical science of the USA of XX century. The process of decline of disciplines is shown on the example of intellectual history and history of international relations. On the example of women’s history and «new» cultural history the process of rapid growth of the fi eld is analyzed.
