Universal History Annotation << Back VIMS and Its People in the Solution of a Diamond Problem in the USSR (Little-known Pages of History) S.V. Belov A.A. Frolov The historical sketch is devoted to little-known pages of history of participation of geologists and technologists-dressers of the All-Russian research institute of mineral resources named after N.M. Fedorovsky (VIMS) in creation of a domestic raw base of diamonds. Episodes of prospecting works on diamonds in the Urals and in Siberia in 30–40 years of the last century are characterized. It is shown that the first discovery of diamonds placers in the Urals, and design and construction of the first diamond-mining factories was carried out with direct participation of geologists and technologists-dressers of VIMS. The history of creation of technology of enrichment of diamondiferous sands and extraction of diamonds is described. The role of employees of Northern expedition of VIMS in discovering of the first diamonds on the spit «Falcon» in Yakutia is shown. Moreover, the results of works of Northern expedition of VIMS during the final period of its activity in the 50-th years of the last century are characterized.
