Universal History Annotation << Back GOLOVKINSKY MANOR OF COUNTS ORLOV ON VOLGA E.A. Burdin In this article the history of the well-known possession of Orlov in the village of Golovkino is considered (it is nowadays fl ooded, the modern Old Main region of the Ulyanovsk region). The main attention is paid to a question of its basis and an origin of the fi rst settlers, and also improvement of the estate and dynamics of the population of the village. The important place is devoted to history of an architectural masterpiece – Church of the Ascension and its attendants. The fi rst congress of Militant Atheists of the Old Main area which took place in Golovkino in June, 1930 is for the fi rst time described. Data on resettlement of residents of the village from a zone of fl ooding of Kuibyshev hydroelectric power station in 1952–1952 years are provided.
