Universal History Annotation << Back RECONSTRUCTION OF BIOGRAPHY OF P.A. BAKHMATOV. PERIOD OF 1896-1932 A.R. Narskiy The article opens up a series of publications reconstructing the life of P.A. Bakhmatov (1896 (1898?)–1964), the fi rst chief of the All-Union (now – All-Russian) Scientific and Research Institute of Aviation Materials (VIAM) The fi rst article deals with his biography in the period from his birth to the foundation of VIAM in 1932. P.A. Bakhmatov was born into a large peasant family with many children in the village of Malaya Malakhovka in the Onega district of the Arkhangelsk province. He evinced dignity in selfl ess serving to Motherland of the Soviet state: his whole life was a single selfl ess labor feat. Moreover, P.A. Bakhmatov was ordered to active duty during the World War I, Civil, Great Patriotic and Soviet-Japanese Wars.
