REVISION OF THE SOCIETY OF TOTAL WAR: WORLD WAR I AND THE COLLAPSE OF TSARISM |
Matsuzato Kimitaka
The article deals with the emergence of the first world warrior and the collapse of tsarism in Russia. Total war does not always lead the population to national unity. It requires people to maximize their impact according to their sexual, class and class status, and therefore often reinforces group identity. This attribute of total war can serve as a wick for postwar revolutionary upheavals. The reasons why solidarity eventually won in some countries, and in others, no, can only be explained by an empirical analysis of events, and not by deduction from a large theory. Ultimately, it is necessary to revise the stereotype of the First World War, according to which «if the conscious people worked together to win a total war, the country won, which led to the birth of mass democracy after the war. Countries that did not survive this test of total war, have disappeared. « If the First World War marked the start of the twentieth century (it is also better not to trust this pattern too much), let's hope that the softness and internal contradiction of the total war regime in Russia, which are researched in the work, will help a more subtle and detailed understanding of the twentieth century.
Keywords: total war; first world war; revolution; provisional government; internal contradiction of the regime.
