Universal History Annotation << Back ASKLEPION OF THE KOS ISLAND (FROM THE HISTORY OF ANTIQUE MEDICINE) S V. Belov The offered sketch is devoted to history of antique medicine which actively developed in the medical temple complex, most known in Greece, – Asklepion of the island of Kos who is in east part of the Aegean Sea. The history of creation of this outstanding architectural construction of antiquity is characterized. The principles and approaches to treatment of various diseases and also the technician and the technology of doctoring applied by priests-aesculapius are described. Special attention is paid to the personality and works of Hippocrates who is considered as the father of modern medicine. It is shown that the ideas of antique Aesculapius about infl uence spiritual components on emergence and the course of diseases, fi nd confi rmation in provisions of new science – epigenetics.
