Universal History Annotation << Back PARTICIPATION OF THE TERASIAN COZAWAY IN MILITARY ACTIONS OF RUSSIAN TROOPS IN THE NORTHERN CAUCASUS AT THE TURN OF THE XVI–XVII CENTURIES A.N. Alilov, M.-P.B. Abdusalamov, N.D. Chekulaev Article is devoted to participation of Tersky Cossack army in campaigns of imperial troops to Dagestan at the end of XVI–the beginning of the XVII century. In the center of attention of authors military operations of the Russian army in the territory of Kumykiya under the command of voivodes Zasekin, Shakhovsky, Hvorostinin, Buturlin and Pleshcheev. The purpose of a campaign of 1604–1605, the reasons and consequences for the Russian troops are analysed. It has been established that success of forces of the shamkhalsky coalition over imperial troops is caused by the rise of liberating fight of Dagestanis which has accepted national character. The leading role in defeat of the Russian troops was played by the Kumyk governors the Weight Tarkovsky and Sultan-Mahmoud Endireevsky who have shown uncommon abilities of a military leader. At the same time it is revealed that participation of the Turkish troops in the shamkhalsko-Russian war of 1604–1605 was explained by the aspiration of the sultan to force out Russia from the region and to establish the sovereignty over Dagestan. If to speak about participation of tersky Cossack army in campaigns of imperial troops to Dagestan at a turn of the XVI–XVII centuries it is proved their defining role as main force in military actions of Russia of that time. Relying on achievements of a domestic historiography, authors show a role and the place of the tersky Cossacks as support of the Russian state in the North Caucasus. Authors conduct a joint research on this subject for 4 years, equally working both with istochnikovy material, and with historiographic.
