COMPOSITION AND CONDITION OF LOCATORS IN THE STATE OF TEUTONIC ORDER IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIIITH CENTURY |

The article is devoted to the composition and condition (property and functions) of locators in the Teutonic state in the second half of the XIIIth century. Representatives of this group were founders of cities and villages and received land ownership and tax remissions. Their status was marked in historiography, but wasn't researched completely. For the description of their condition was made the list of locators on the basis of acts and official documents, which includes 31 persons. It was concluded, that locators received possessions in Pomezania, Kulm region, Sambia and Warmia in 1276–1300, that was caused by final establishment of Order's authority in Prussia at that time. Social-property differentiation of locators, which is characterized by land ownerships, mills, taverns as well as judicial and administrative functions, let to conclude, that they were homogeneous group, in which were presented first signs of stratification. Activity of locators was under the control of Order's officials, who saved their jurisdiction over the main part of cases and regulated rules of locations. This circumstance allowed Order to provide continuous usage of land for new settlements, which formed the basis of his politics.
