KHAKASS-MINUSINSK TERRITORY IN THE XVII CENTURY: MILITARY ACTIONS AND POPULATION DECLINE |

The Siberian lands, rich in resources, became part of the Russian state in the during the XVII–XVIII centuries. In the Khakassia-Minusinsk Territory, in the south of Siberia, the accession process lasted almost a century. The initial period was accompanied by quite complex social and historical processes, including military actions that were conducted at various intervals throughout the century. There was a tremendous physical and moral tension among several generations of the population. Military action has become one of the main reasons for the decline in population.
