Universal History Annotation << Back THE PROBLEM OF RUSSIA’S ALLIED RELATIONS WITH WESTERN EUROPEAN COUNTRIES IN THE VIEWS OF RUSSIAN CONSERVATIVES IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE 19 – EARLY 20th CENTURIES V.Yu. Belyankina The article analyzes the views of representatives of the Russian conservative public in the second half of the XIX – early XX centuries on the problem of Russia’s allied relations with Western European countries. Based on archival materials and periodicals of Slavophiles and right-wing monarchist parties, the author reveals the conceptual aspects of the theory and practice of Russia’s international relations with Germany, England and France. The author highlights the criteria for evaluating these countries as an ally of Russia: the stability of relations, the political conformity of the state system, the military-technical potential of cooperation, areas of intersection of interests and the possibility of resolving controversial issues. The attitude of socio-political circles to the issues of the influence of Western countries on the foreign policy practice of the Russian government, the participation of the Russian Empire in coalitions is considered. The main attention is paid to the discussion of pro-German and Proto-English trends in the conservative camp of Russian society on the issue of allied relations. The article touches upon the topic of international relations and foreign policy of Russia in the late XIX – early XX century.
