Universal History Annotation << Back ELECTRIC TELECOMMUNICATIONS AS A RESPONSE TO SOCIAL AND MEDICAL CHALLENGES IN THE LATE 19th – FIRST THIRD OF THE 20th CENTURIES A.V. Vladzymyrskyy Appearance in the second half of the XIX century electrical telecommunications (telegraph, radio, telephone) has opened up new opportunities for solving a signifi cant social problem - the availability of medical care. Telecommunications made it possible to «reduce» the geographical distance between the doctor and the patient, which is a critical factor. The main events and processes associated with the use of telecommunication technologies to solve this social problem in the global perspective in the 1850s - 1930s are identified and summarized. During the study period, there is a predominantly empirical practical use of electrical telecommunications for biomedical purposes. There was an accumulation of primary knowledge, awareness of potential opportunities. The main methodological methods of using telecommunications are beginning to take shape: consulting, notifi cation, information collection. The radiotelegraph played a special role in the development of the Arctic territories of Russia. It marks the first systematic use of telecommunications to solve the social problem of access to medical care.
