Universal History Annotation << Back Composition of Power in Southern Europe XV–XVII Centuries: from the Dynastic Union of Aragone and Castille Crowns to the Spanish Monarchy Kyrchanov M.V The author analyses the features and contradictions of the development of Spain as a composite monarchy. It is assumed that the composite monarchy as a form of political organisation of power at the institutional and regional levels has become a universal form of state in Europe, starting from the 16th century. The interdependence of such phenomena as “identity” and “loyalty” with regional political institutions and identities is shown. In the presented article, the author 1) studies the main vectors and directions of transformation of the political institutions of Spain as a composite monarchy, 2) analyses the relationship between various political institutions as factors in the development of compositeness, 3) compares the regional features of the political organization of Spain as a multi-component monarchy. The author analyses the role of political institutions, including the Councils and regional Cortes as composites that formed the Spanish monarchy. It is assumed that Spain, as a composite monarchy, developed as a multi-component society, where regions retained their statuses and characteristics.
