Russia and Europe: the Problem of Relations Between
the Slavic and Western European Worlds in Conservative
Journalism of the Second Half of the 19th Century |

The article examines the problem of relations between Russia and Europe at the level of sociocultural and political
confrontation through the prism of foreign policy views of Russian conservatives of the second half of the 19th century.
Based on philosophical journalism, the author reveals the issue of the opposition of the Slavic and Western European worlds
as a conceptual aspect of the foreign policy views of the Slavophiles and their supporters. Particular attention is paid to the
historical purpose and role of Russia on the Balkan Peninsula in the 19th century, the geopolitical signifi cance of the region from
the point of view of realizing Russia's national interests.
The article touches on the topic of international relations and foreign policy of Russia in the second half of the 19th century.
