The article examines the least known stages in the history of road construction on the territory of the Republic of Dagestan on the basis of archival sources and periodical materials from the middle of the XIX and the end of the XIX centuries. Trade and economic ties with neighboring regions and regions of the Caucasus are revealed. It shows the military-forced nature of labor, the low level of road equipment during road construction. The issues of the impact of natural disasters on the road transport infrastructure are considered.
