This article examines the value-based and ideological impact of the legal status in Dagestan in the second half of the 19th and early 20th centuries. he analysis of sources is carried out, on the basis of which the characteristics of the legal status of the peoples of Dagestan are given. It traces the evolution of the value orientations enshrined in them: from class solidarity and paternalism to the doctrine of natural law and the recognition of the primacy of human rights. It concludes that Dagestan, due to its geographical and natural conditions, was a land of contrasts, sharp oppositions that played a significant role in its historical and ethnographic destinies.
