Universal History Annotation << Back On the Problem of the Place and Time of the Origin of Historical Knowledge in the Ancient East: a Historiographical Aspect Mohammed Amir Abdul Jabbar Mohammed This article addresses a little-studied issue in historical scholarship: examining historiographical evaluative approaches to the time and place of the origin and development of historical knowledge in the Ancient East. The author examines several selected aspects of the time and place of the origin of historical knowledge in the Ancient East from a historiographical perspective. Particular attention is paid to the Mesopotamian region. The article presents criteria for distinguishing historical knowledge from mythology and religious systems in the most important historiographic studies on the topic. The causes and forms of the emergence of historical knowledge are discussed, as are human perceptions and understanding of the past. The origins of historical writing are discussed in relation to the ancient tradition of historical knowledge. The author of this article presents the main historiographical theories regarding the place and time of the origin and development of historical knowledge in the Ancient East. The author highlights key works by researchers on the topic, both Russian-language and Western historical scholarship. The continuity and distinctive features of historiographical approaches to the topic are demonstrated.
