Universal History Annotation << Back UNDER THE THREAT OF THE SEA BOTTOM S.K. Kovaleva Seabed becomes more and more a giant dumping site. For many years mankind has been burring millions of tons of waste, including environmentally hazardous substances, in oceans. Problems of submerged radioactive materials, chemical weapon, bombs and mines become extremely urgent. In 1945–47 years SSSR, USA and Great Britain dumped the germen chemical warfare agents (CWA) in the North and Baltic Seas. These agents contain the thousands of tons of CWA. As far as ten years ago there was noticed the more and more growing dynamic of the capsule destruction that can lead to the CWA volley reject. A half a century ago nobody can foresee what would be the aftermath of the CWA sea dumping? But the scientific progresses in the last decades allow us to comprehend the danger hidden under the sheet of waters of many-meters thick.
