Borodanov In 1981-84, the author participated as a geologist in the provision of international assistance to the people's Republic of Mozambique for the development of mineral-raw-material base of the country. In the basis of the story formed the memories of the tragic events of those years at the mine Моrruа, the witness (a prototype of the novel «Ilya») which he had become – capture opposition to the government of Mozambique forces of hostages among the Soviet geologists. In his time of these events, due to a known closeness of the Soviet system, have not received sufficient information coverage. There still remain unsettled circumstances of the death of the «disappeared «geologists.
