Universal History Annotation << Back THE FISHING INDUSTRY OF THE TRANSCAUCASIAN REGION (IN THE SECOND HALF OF THE XIX – IN THE FIRST DECADE OF THE XX CENTURY) A.M. Ismailova The article traces the trends in the development of the fi shing industry in the Transcaucasian region during this period: the origin, formation and development. It is shown how one of the backward branches of the economy – fishing, which arose in ancient times, without losing its former positions as part of the life support system in the region, went through a difficult path of development from river fishing, exchange trade, to a large branch of pre-revolutionary production. The article also analyzes the activities of state bodies whose work contributed to the successful development of fisheries. The conclusion is made that the formation and development of one of the branches of the food industry – the fishing industry of the Transcaucasian Region is associated with the creation of monopolies, technical achievements, the development of river and sea transport, the involvement of Russian specialists in this industry.
